wangari’s trees of peace a true story from Africa

This children’s book based on a true story in Africa. it was written and illustrated by Jeanette Winter. the book starts with a little girl named “Wangari” living with her mother in a small African village called “Kenya”. She would harvest crops and firewood with her mother. But soon after, she won a scholarship going to school in America. when she came back she saw that all the trees in the village were gone and women had carry firewood from far away so that their backs crouched. so, Wangari decided to do something she planted tree seeds and telling other women to plant seeds too. if the seeds sprout she would award the women money and soon other villages started doing the same thing when the workers came to cut down the trees she tried to stop them but a guard swung his nightstick and sent her to jail. although she was in jail she knew that other people were continuing this traditionImage result for wangari's trees of peace
